Men Who Look Like Satan

Lisette Chavez is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice embraces drawing, lithography, and installation-based work. Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, her work reflects the tensions and intersections of Mexican-American culture, drawing from family history and personal trauma. Through her work, Chavez explores religious hypocrisy, good and evil, sin and redemption, gleaning inspiration from the paradoxical beauty and brutality of devotional art. With sardonic humor, she approaches provocative subjects in ways that invite reflection, conversation, and empathy, while fostering a deeper understanding of the human condition.

About the artist

Chavez earned her Master of Arts degree at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Arizona. Her work is held in museums, universities, and private collections. She has exhibited nationally and internationally in Estonia, France, Egypt, Australia, and Mexico. She currently lives and works in Tucson, Arizona.
